Spring: growth and new beginnings
We are approaching mid spring, the season of creation and growth. This season is marked by Beltane, the pagan festival of spring and fertility. (Easter embodies many of these sentiments as well, with bunnies and eggs serving as symbols of fertility and it being customary to wear the colors of spring and new flowers.) There are references to offspring, flowering and expansion.
Spring can be called the least dramatic season. Summer burns bright with long, endless days. Autumn is the season of change. Winter brings us into conflict with the elements. Spring comes like a respite: it feels light and natural. It’s a beginning instead of an end. This week I would like to look at some of the great energies that spring embodies and discuss how we can connect with these energies to celebrate this season of expansion and growth.

Spring, like all seasons and time in general, will always come back to us no matter what we do. The same applies to growth opportunities. Life around us is constantly evolving, not only socially but also culturally and historically. It’s up to us to see the opportunities and move forward with them.

This is not the early springtime, but the lush, fertile time of maturity. This is the time to celebrate our growth and how far we’ve come personally.

Winter is about conserving resources, snuggling up, and surviving the dark days. Now that we are basking in the midst of spring and approaching early summer, we live in a time of plenty. This is the time of year to eat fresh fruit, get outside and explore new life and new ideas. There’s still time before we have to endure winter again – we have months to think about how to embrace the rest of the year.

One of the best things about spring is that romance is really in the air. Maybe it’s a biological imperative, maybe it’s just the warm weather that pushes us to explore nature and the sun.
